3. Warmkins Weighted Monkey

This monkey is one of the best weighted stuffed animals you can buy. It comes with all the bell and whistles and, of course, still provides all the benefits of a traditional weighted animal as well. It’s manufactured using only the highest quality material for maximum fluffiness.

When you think of stuffed animals, you probably think of a light, fluffy creature kids can play. Not something that’s been specifically designed to be heavy. After all – why make a stuffed animal weighted?

There are plenty of benefits, which we’ll cover in detail further down, but one of the most prominent benefits buyers are after, is their calming effect. Weighted stuffed animals provides its holder with a calming sensation as the weight puts a slight pressure on the body.

This slight pressure is a classic therapy technique called Sensory Integration (SI). And it’s perfect for children that are restless, have trouble focusing, and may be a little uneasy when trying to sit still.

Although a heavy stuffed animal will be fantastic if you’re staying home and not moving much, it can cause a bit of a logistical problem if there’s a lot of movement. Which is when a weighted vest for your child will certainly come in handy.

If you’d like to know more about how a weighted animal can improve your child’s life, scroll further down. Otherwise, here are some of the best heavy, yet still cute and cuddly creatures available today:

1. F&F Weighted Teddy Bear

Fun and Function (F&F) have been in the therapy business for over a decade now. Providing solutions and products for children (and adults) who are a bit different to others. Their products are designed for one reason – to improve people’s lives. And they do just that.

This weighted teddy bear has been designed for all children aged 3+. As you can tell by its fur, it’s super soft and cuddly meaning it’ll never get scratchy or itchy (if you take good care of it).

In total the F&F Weighted Teddy Bear weighs 3lbs, the almost perfect weight for any child to easily manoeuvre yet still provide all the benefits of a heavy stuffed animal.

  • 16″ tall, weighing 3lbs total
  • Soft and cuddly fur
  • Only suitable for surface washing and air drying

2. SensiPal Weighted Plush Sloth

Sloths may just be the most adorable animal on the planet. The question of how their species has survived so long, given their lack of swift movement, remains to be answered. Either way, they make a great stuffed animal. And they’re perfectly sized to add a little weight to them as well.

This weighted sloth, is handmade by the SensiPalStore on Etsy. The weighted beads inside the sloth are double bagged for extra protection against any slipping out.

All up, it’s around 22″ long and weighs about 3.75lbs. A good weight, but a far cry from the heaviest real sloths that can weigh up to 25lbs.

Now, even though this sloth doesn’t replicate the real-life counterpart to the dot, it still makes for a cute stuffed animal. Add on the heavy weight, and it’s perfect for helping calm restlessness.

However, if the looks of this sloth just doesn’t cut it, they also have a plush monkey and a giant sea turtle available.

Types of Weighted Animals

Weighted animals come in all different sizes, shapes, and of course, weight.

Typically, you’ll find the size of weighted animals no different to that of their non-weighted friends. Most of the animals you see above range between 15″ and 20″ in length/height (depending on the animal). It’s been found sizes in this range tend to fit both children and adults the most comfortably.

As for the shape – it simply depends on the type of animal being purchased. There are plenty of upright animals (teddy bear, giraffe, bunny) and plenty of animals which are longer rather than shorter (sloth, bunny, dog). As for which one is better – neither is. They both achieve the same benefits all weighted animals achieve.

The only real difference is that weighted animals have been weighted with a material (usually beads or pellets) to give them a heavier overall weight. So, what’s the point of buying a weighted stuff animal? Read on.

What Are They Good For?

Weighted animals, on top of being utterly comfortable and an absolute pleasure to cuddle, provide a great range of benefits on top of traditional stuffed animals.

For one – they are great for anyone who’s a little bit restless. The heavy weight of the animal emits a slight pressure on the body when hugging or cuddling the animal. This pressure is a therapy technique used by many, to calm, relax, and relieve the carrier of any stress they’re carrying.

It’s perfect for those struggling to sit still or find it hard to focus on certain tasks. Of course, if you’re just after a warm cuddly feeling, they’re great for that too.

You’ll find it’s not only us humans that can benefit from weighted products like the stuffed animals you see here today. In fact, we’ve created weighted vests for dogs that do the exact same thing – help calm a restless dog in certain circumstances.

Can Adults Use Them As Well?

Yes – there’s no discrimination here.

Although most weighted stuffed animals have been designed for use by children, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with using one as an adult.

If it’s wrong to want to cuddle a warm and fuzzy animal. whilst being comforted by a sense of calmness, as an adult, then where’s the fun in being an adult.

Adults can, and should, do whatever they please that makes them feel better, so long as it doesn’t affect others negatively. And an adult using a weighted stuffed animal most definitely does not affect others negatively.

Of course, stuffed animals aren’t for everyone. And if you’re still looking to receive the same benefits of a weighted stuffed animal, why not try out a heavy weighted lap pad instead. They’re almost like a weighted blanket, but are slightly smaller, making them perfect for travel.
